Diabetes Insipidus

A disease that is characterized by frequent urination, excretion of large amounts of dilute URINE, and excessive THIRST. Etiology of diabetes insipidus include deficiency of ANTIDIURETIC HORMONE (also known as ADH or VASOPRESSIN) secreted by the PITUITARY, impaired KIDNEY response to ADH, and impaired hypothalamic regulation of thirst.


Disease

A definite pathologic process with a characteristic set of signs and symptoms. It may affect the whole body or any of its parts, and its etiology, pathology, and prognosis may be known or unknown.

Kidney

Body organ that filters blood for the secretion of URINE and that regulates ion concentrations.
